Did the May 13 midterm elections signal the end of Estrada-Ejercito political clan?The clan's patriarch, former president Joseph "Erap" Estrada, has failed in his bid for a last term as Manila City mayor.
He was defeated by former Manila City vice mayor Isko Moreno by a wide margin, based on the latest unofficial tally by the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Moreno garnered 345,774 votes against Estrada with 202,699 votes with over 96.87 percent of the votes canvassed as of 3:20 a.m. Tuesday.
Erap's 2 sons, JV Ejercito and Jinggoy Estrada, are hanging by a thread in their bids for a seat in the Senate.They are both outside the winning circle, based on 92.43 percent of election returns of clustered precincts as of 3:50 a.m. Tuesday.
